About the Journal

Since 1968, Journal of Structural Mechanics has published peer-reviewed scientific articles on theoretical, computational and experimental mechanics of solids and fluids as well as on the mathematics and applications related to these themes.

Volumes 1–49 (1968–2016) have been archived in the old web pages of the journal: /rmseura.tkk.fi/rmlehti/archive.html.

The journal belongs to the DOAJ data base (Directory of Open Access Journals) and has been indexed in Scopus since spring 2020.

AIMS AND SCOPE

The scope of the journal includes theoretical, computational and experimental mechanics of solids and fluids as well as mathematics and applications related to these fields. Examples of possible topics are static and dynamic analyses of strength of structures, multibody dynamics, fluid mechanics, interaction of fluids and structures, design of structures and machines, structural optimization, functionality of structures in extreme conditions, smart machines and structures, vibration mechanics, contact mechanics, rotor dynamics, fracture mechanics and fatigue, thermomechanics, soil and rock mechanics, material technology, new materials, optimal control of dynamic systems, FEM, biomechanics, micromechanics, industrial and medical applications of mechanics, and teaching of mechanics and strength of materials.

The journal publishes also literature reviews, short letters containing comments on articles published in the journal and short reports describing a technical method or solution having interest in the fields of the journal. The length of these texts should not exceed six pages. Articles can be written in Finnish or English. Finnish articles include a short separate 'English Summary'. The Exchange Centre for Scientific Literature (called Exchange Center on navigation) is in charge of the exchange of the periodical with various international forums.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Manuscripts must be about topics belonging to the focus of the journal  and the topic should have either scientific or industrial relevance. Manuscripts must include new  scientific knowledge. In engineering sciences, the boarders inbetween scientific research, industrial development and product design are, due to the nature of the field, often vacillating, but the main emphasis of manuscripts should be in scientific research. Manuscripts must follow the principles of responsible conduct of research

Regarding layout, manuscripts should follow the given templates: the class file rmstyle.cls for LaTeX-users writing in english with instructions.tex or instructions.pdf (dated 7 August 2015); for Word users instructions.doc (dated 11 May 2017).

PEER-REVIEW AND PUBLICATION POLICIES

Manuscripts chosen for a review process will be single blind peer-reviewed by at least two experts in addition to the Editor-in-Chief (or Editor), performed in line with the quality and ethical criteria imposed by the scientific community. The Journal of Structural Mechanics is committed to Responsible Conduct of Research Guidelines published by the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity (TENK).

The journal takes issues of copyright violation, plagiarism or any other breaches of publication practices seriously. Submitted articles may be checked with a plagiarism prevention software.

Submission to Journal of Structural Mechanics indicates that authors accept that their article, in case of acceptance for publication, will be published on the journal web page.

Authors are not charged for manuscript submission, peer-review or article publication.
